Bio

Sean Searle was born at the turn of the millennium. He has been playing the drums since 2012. He is also proficient in Bass and Electric Guitar. He is influenced largely by Lars Ulrich and also enjoys Sabaton and Iron Maiden. He is currently studying music at Birmingham Music School and Access to Music. His goal is to have a career as a performer in a band.

Sean started taking an interest in music at primary school at the age of about 9 years when he learned to play the recorder.  He enjoyed playing this and rehearsed well at home.

At the age of 10, Sean asked for a drum kit, but like most parents, they were reluctant to rush out to get one partly because of the noise and partly in case the idea of learning to play the drum was just a flash in the pan. Two years on and after still asking for a drum kit for birthdays and Christmases his parents gave in. They felt that to maintain the wish for a drum kit after a couple of years, particularly given his age, that perhaps they might take the chance.  They found a drum kit just before Christmas 3 years ago and brought it home and Sean has never looked back.  The acoustic kit was pretty noisy and They stuffed the bass drum with a sleeping bag, lined the walls of the spare room with professional soundproofing, apologised to the neighbours, and then left him to it.  From thereon after Sean has been totally dedicated and committed to playing the drums whenever he can.  Since the original drum kit, he has moved to an electronic drum kit, now being on his second electronic set.

Sean has never missed a drumming lesson at Yamaha Birmingham since starting lessons 3 years ago. He has achieved a distinction in Grade 1, merit in Grade 2, bypassed Grade 3 and 4 (as recommended by the teacher to enable him to move up a class) and is currently expected to take his Grade 8 in the next few months.

Sean has performed in a couple of major concerts run by Yamaha in front of an audience of approximately 70 people.  In addition, Sean has taken part in a school talent show where he performed at a very good standard.  This year he will be taking part no doubt in the talent show again and will definitely be performing again for Yamaha.

Sean has a Work Experience week placement due in the summer and is arranging a suitable company to spend this time with, obviously will have to be with a musical connection!

This year Sean is involved in a Yamaha project whereby musicians from the Birmingham branch will be going over to Poland to help teach and support young people in their schools for a weekend.  Following this, the Polish young people will visit England and meet up with the Birmingham team to exchange experiences and knowledge.  This is a great opportunity for both sides and will be a massive experience in Sean’s musical progression and future career.

A year ago Sean had already decided to aim to have a musical career and has visited a couple of colleges to gather information on courses and entry qualifications required.  He has a clear idea of the kind of musical roles that he would like to aspire to, mainly teach (which he could be self-employed) once he has acquired a teaching qualification, and he would also love to be in a band, particularly a successful one.
